Diabetes

Diabetes is a long-term illness in which a person’s blood sugar level is too high. BAME people are more likely to develop diabetes than the White population.

People with diabetes are also more susceptible to other illnesses, such as COVID-19. Thus, if you have diabetes it is important to take steps to detect illnesses such as COVID-19 early, in order to prevent the disease and its symptoms from getting worse.

This is known as secondary prevention

For more information about how to prevent or manage diabetes and avoid other complicating illnesses, please see the NHS website.
